Hollywood is not just about the glitz, glam, and expensive fashion pieces. It is also about how crazy you can dress--no one will care because you're a celebrity. The fashion icons who dress wild and crazy are Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj. Some may wonder how they can be fashion icons when their outfits are so outrageous and more like costumes. These celebrities seem more concerned about making a statement to their fans just to be themselves.
Probably one of the most famous examples of costume-like fashion pieces are from Lady Gaga. She has gone to such extremes as dressing like a guy for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards to covering her face completely with masks on the red carpet. And let's not forget her meat dress or her peacock dress and awkwardly shaped high heels. Now Gaga is not crazy; she dresses in these strange ways to get others' attention and to say that it is OK to be different.
Nicki Minaj is another female celebrity who dresses eccentrically-- colored wigs and costume-like outfits, qualifying her as not only a music icon but also a fashion icon. Although she does wear some tight and revealing clothing, Nicki says it is only to show that you should feel comfortable within your body-- everyone, whether curvy, thin, or in between, should feel comfortable with their bodies, and Nicki Minaj is a great example of someone who does. Now one may not have to dress as wildly as she does to be oneself, but one shouldn't be afraid to wear that piece of clothing that is a bit tighter than the usual.
Caution: you might want to reconsider, though, if you're considering stepping out in a meat dress.

Miss South Carolina Loses 110 Pounds
Many may not be able to tell, but the gorgeous Miss South Carolina went through the battle of losing weight before she entered the Miss America pageant. Her name is Bree Boyce, and she lost an amazing 110 pounds.
Boyce says that she is proud of herself because she went from 234 pounds to winning the swimsuit portion of the pageant. I believe that Miss South Carolina is a good role model for teenage girls because she is showing them that they can reach their dreams if they try hard enough.
Boyce says that she has battled with her weight since she was seven years old, and that it reached an all-time high when she was seventeen. Boyce said it was simply all because she didn't take care of herself properly because she would eat a lot of unhealthy foods.
She decided that enough is enough when her doctor advised her to lose weight when she began having knee problems. Over the past three years, Boyce worked out three hours a day and simply ate healthy foods. She says if she hadn't lost the weight then she never would be able to help others by telling them that they can lose weight the same way she did.
Boyce also said that she keeps an old pair of pants from when she was size 18 to remind her that she never wants to go back to 234 pounds. Now 22 years old, she is healthy, gorgeous, happy, and a great role model for all girls and women. She is living her dream.
She hopes that she is helping others to reach their dreams and for them to know, even if they are overweight, if they have the will power to change then they can.
I wanted to share this story because I am truly inspired by Bree Boyce. It is so difficult to lose a few pounds, let alone 110. Although it took her three years to lose all of this weight, she demonstrated her perseverance. She also exhibited this buy winning the Miss South Carolina pageant. Not only do I believe that she will help girls and women lose weight, but she is also helping them reach for their dreams.

The Cost of Beauty
It is truly amazing how much someone will spend on products to make themselves look beautiful. Woman and girls today are willing to pay extraordinary amounts of money on their nails, hair, eyebrows, make-up, and more. How far or how much are some of these woman willing to pay for beauty?
Acrylic nails cost anywhere from $30-$40 dollars. But these nails do not last forever; they look good about two weeks, then one must get them filled-- purchasing the whole package will cost another $30 or $40. The entire package includes the fill, the nail polish color change, the top coat, the filing, and the extra designs one might want added.
Extra designs usually cost around five dollars per fingernail, and on all ten nails, that adds up to around $50 on top of the $30-$40 already in them.
Let's just say that someone just got the regular nail kit at $30 and refilled them every two weeks for a year. The total cost for acrylic nails adds up to $720. That is because one is looking at about $60 a month on acrylic nails. These prices are outrageous.
Make-up is another beauty tool that costs so much money. Buying foundation, powder, bronzer, concealer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and lip gloss or lipstick adds up in a hurry. All of these beauty items cost around six to eight dollars a piece-- much more at department stores. You must buy these products at least every three months. Bought all at once, the price tag is about $63.
Not only do girls and women get their nails done and buy make-up, they also get their hair done. They dye their hair and cut it-- sometimes all at once. It cost around $70-$80 to get your hair dyed and $30 to get your hair cut (far more in a larger community). That adds up to about $110 every two to three months to get your hair done. Do thatsix times a year, and you will be spending around $660 On top of that, if you get your eyebrows waxed every two weeks-- at about $10-12 per session-- and you're looking at another $120 a year.
This is just an estimate of the cost of beauty. On an annual basis, all these products and services add up to about $1013. This is an appalling amount of money, though it might not seem like it at the time.
Therefore, we should ask ourselves before spending our money whether it is really worth it.

Glamorous Kardashian Wedding
The second Kardashian recently got married and, of course, Kim had the most glamorous fashion at her wedding. She was a vision in white along with her four sisters and mom Kris Jenner all of whom dressed according to her wedding's black and white theme. Black and white gowns and tuxes were not the only things catching eyes at Kardashian and Humphries' wedding; the diamond jewelry was flashing from head to toe on Kim. Not only was the bride fashionable, but her guests were as well.
The glamorous bride, of course, had to have three wedding dresses for her big day. The Kardashian family's good friend and famous fashion designer Vera Wang was able to create Kim's dream dresses. She went for the big ball gown with tons of tulle for her walk down the aisle. For her second dress, she chose a mermaid dress to give that romantic feel between the bride and groom for their first dance. To end the evening, the bride chose a slinky, Old Hollywood glam dress to dance the rest of night in.
Along with the bride, Kim's wedding party-- Kendall, Kylie, Kourtney, Khloe, and mother Kris Jenner-- also wore white Vera Wang dresses and carried white bouquets for the big day. The bridesmaids wore a simple, yet glamorous, mermaid dress.
This wouldn't be a Kardashian wedding if it didn't have tons of bling. The bride's love for diamonds and glitz showed with her 20.5 carat diamond engagement ring, wedding band, head piece, and large diamond earrings. But, of course, for the beautiful bride there is never too much glitz in fashion.
The Kardashian family always shows their fashionable style, and it was definitely on display at Kim and Kris's wedding. Therefore, their is no doubt the fashionistas were watching Kim and Kris's fairytale wedding that aired on E! News October 9th and 10th at 8/7c.

What's Up, Toddlers & Tiaras?
What do you think of a four-year-old girl wearing makeup and getting a spray tan for a beauty pageant? Well, the mothers of TLC's Toddlers & Tiaras live for it. They enter their kids, who are anywhere from the ages of two to eleven, in beauty pageants all over the country. Girls are not the only ones competing; these pageant moms are now entering their boys in pageants, too. Some fathers are also involved in the pageant process, whether with their daughter or son.
These pageant moms will go as far as making their daughters wear makeup, fake eyelashes, spray tans, fake hair, fake teeth, and even making them shave their legs. Then there are nail appointments, hair appointments, costume fittings, and rehearsals for their performance. The kids look almost fake and Barbie-like. While opponents argue that the kids are too young for this, pageant parents argue their children live for these competitions.
Regardless whether the child wants to do it or their parent is forcing them to compete, have these pageant parents gone to far?
If you have ever seen Toddlers & Tiaras, you understand the drama and preparation that goes into each and every pageant. Each little boy or girl is out there competing to win crowns, titles, and some cash.Regardless whether the child wants to do it or their parent is forcing them to compete, have these pageant parents gone to far?
Competing is costly. Some parents spend anywhere from $100-400 for a pageant dress. Then each child must also prepare a talent for each competition-- singing, dancing, baton twirling, and any other talent that the parents think might help them win the beauty pageant. Lessons cost money.
Not only is it unwise to spend this money and make your child do all this work at such a young age, but some parents get so into the competitive nature of it that they say they hate some of the other children competing against theirs. This teaches children that they should hate everybody they compete against in life.
What about the diva factor-- are these kids divas or potential ones? Many of these kids demand attention all the time and believe that the world revolves around them because that is what these parents are putting into their heads. But maybe these kids just have too much pressure on them, and their parents don't even pay attention to them when they are crying and whining about being tired and not wanting to wear a particular outfit or even do the pageant.

Ultra thin models and teen body image
Today in fashion, one of the big worries is that models are even thinner than they used to be. This worries psychologists and eating disorder experts because they believe models are influencing teenage girls to become thin. But it is not just harmful to teenage girls, it is also harmful to the models' health. Teenage girls look at magazines with models and celebrities that are on television and wish they could be that thin. Then these girls starve themselves and become anorexic or bulimic. Have these models made thin the new normal? Should fashion shows not allow models to be extremely thin? These are questions you need to ask yourselves.
The Madrid Fashion Show didn't think agree thin should be the new normal and banned overly thin models from the show. The organizers believed these models did not represent beauty in a realistic way and that they just did not look healthy. Therefore, they decided that in order for the models to be allowed in their fashion show, they must be within a healthy weight range.
But what most people don't know is that these models are usually between 14-19 years old and at 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11weighing less than 125 pounds. This needs to change. Teenage girls shouldn't be starving themselves; they are still growing. These girls need to be shown that they are beautiful no matter what kind of body type they have.
Not only are models starving themselves to become thin, but they are also smoking to keep their weight down. Models smoke because people who smoke remove the layer of fat from under the muscle. Therefore, models smoke because it is an easier method of losing weight than trying to watch what they eat. Models are engaging in extremely unhealthy behavior when they smoke because not only do they risk developing cancer they are also affecting their development due to starving themselves. Teenage girls do not need to be influenced to smoke now on top of becoming anorexic and bulimic. Now it is in the hands of the modeling agencies to ban thin models and show the world real beauty. Is that what you would do?
